Mirza Firoz Beg

Personal Experience

Firoz, in his current role, is leading the Equity & Poverty work within WRI. He is supporting and advising teams integrate gender and equity considerations within their work. Prior to joining WRI, he was with Oxfam, leading their Social Inclusion theme and community empowerment work. He also helped teams look at their work from equity and inclusion lens. He has demonstrated his leadership role and skills in shaping up programs and organization development.

A post-graduate in rural management from Xavier Institute of Social Services, Ranchi, Jharkhand, Firoz has over two and half decade of rich and varied experience in program development and management, providing strategic direction, monitoring & evaluation, evidence-based research, and capacity development in various thematic area. Some of his broad areas of work include Equity & Inclusion, Natural Resource management, Climate, Water, Resilient livelihoods, Gender, Health, Education and Governance.

Proficient in leading large and complex multi-sector programs he has experience of working with bilateral, institutional, and corporate donors. He has rich experience of working with wide range of stakeholders. He has emphasized on strengthening the agency and inclusion of voice of marginalized sections of the society in the development discourse so that they are not left behind.

Dr. Prathna TC

Personal Experience

Dr. Prathna is a Manager with Urban Water Resilience at World Resources Institute, India. In this role, she is leading projects and research that will solve critical urban water challenges such as citywide inclusive and resilient access to WASH service provisioning, water sensitive urban design and planning, rejuvenation of urban water bodies, urban water resilience, onsite implementation of Nature-based Solutions, and engagement with stakeholders such as governments, academia, and other practitioners.

Prathna has over 10 years of experience in working on water projects through her earlier employments with the Govt of NCT of Delhi and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands. She has technical competence and experience in fabrication of drinking water treatment systems, design of decentralized wastewater treatment systems and reuse using Nature-based Solutions, revival of static water bodies, rejuvenation of River Yamuna, and revival of natural wetlands.

Prathna holds a PhD in Nanobiotechnology. She has completed three Post-Doctoral Fellowships from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Mohali and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands and was the recipient of the prestigious Experienced Water PostDoc fellowship. Prathna has more than thirty publications in international journals with an h-index of 17.

Purnanjali Chandra

Personal Experience

Purnanjali is a Project Associate in the Urban Water Resilience team under the Sustainable Cities and Transport Program of World Resource Institute India. She oversees the ‘Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)’ components of different projects. She works on developing MEL logical frameworks, indicators and targets that shall guide the process of data collection, insight generation and reporting in the project. Purnanjali has past work experience in MEL and liaising among multiple stakeholders in projects based on Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) and ensuring improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services for women in marginalized communities across different geographies in India. Purnanjali holds an M.Sc. in Water Policy and Governance from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and a B.Sc. in Geography from Loreto College, University of Calcutta. Having a keen interest across all sectors of water and related fields of research, she has also had the experience of working on different international research projects as Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Purnanjali, is also an avid reader, photographer and writer. She has interned in newspapers namely the Times of India and The Telegraph, ABP Group where she had written multiple articles on diverse genres in the Newspapers.

Ashwathy Anand

Personal Experience

Ashwathy Anand is a Senior Program Associate with the Urban Water Resilience team. She works at the intersection of water, people and development in cities using her interdisciplinary background as an architect, planner and development practitioner. She was also involved in research on blue-green infrastructure, restoration of waterbodies, waterfront regeneration and innovation in water-waste nexus. Ashwathy has previously worked on design and heritage conservation projects in an architectural firm. She has also worked in a policy think tank in Delhi to research on India’s urban policies such as Smart City Mission and HRIDAY. She holds a Master’s in urban Regeneration from the University of London, UK and a bachelor’s in architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal. Ashwathy was part of the Urban Fellowship Program held by Indian Institute for Human Settlements in 2016. Her primary research interests lie in urban regeneration, place-making, urban ecology and environment studies, policy, governance.
